A great meeting point, Trafalgar square is dominated by Nelson's Column (56 metres). The road has recently been routed away meaning it has become a great place to hang out while moving between the tourist sites. The National Gallery is found here and it houses an enormous collection of Art through the ages. Check out the fountains and the bronze lion statues bt Landseer, at the base of Nelson's Column. Also nearby is the Church St Martins in the Fields. You can easily walk to Buckingham Palace from here.
